October 4, 2009: Mandala Hooping End of Season Finale. Wow, wow, wow! Seven LED (lighted) hoops spinning together create some spectacular effects... After hooping on the gorgeous mandala at Roberts Creek pier all summer long, we felt it was time to celebrate. We gathered in the chill evening, lit tea lights in a giant circle, and soon found ourselves warmed by spinning wheels of light. The full moon shone overhead and inspired us to play around with pattern making with our hoops. RoseAnn Janzen captured the magic for us. Click on the image below for more awesome shots:

Creek Daze: Higgledy Piggledy Parade! Saturday, August 22nd. We're fortunate to live in an amazing community, where magical events like Creek Daze happen: an all-day celebration of what it means to be a "Creeker". The parade is our favourite: kids and dogs with fairy wings, parents in gumboots and funny hats, awesome stilt performers and surprises every year.

Our own theme this time around was "Cirque Côte du Soleil". After hours of costume-making and banner-painting, members of the Roberts Creek HoopGroup gathered at the Community Hall, each of us glad we'd taken the time to practice hooping and walking (at the same time!) this past year. The road looks awfully long when you're standing at the top of it!

Ms. Betty was the star attraction, in her colourful costume and proudly spinning the Mother Hoop! Her enthusiasm is contagious — she loves to hoop, and it shows. The whole thing was over before we knew it, then we gathered down at the Mandala for a post-parade photo op, and some hooping with the stilters. Can't wait for next year... join us!

Sea Cavalcade Parade. Saturday, July 25th. Intrepid hooper Liz Freund landed back home from Toronto on Friday night, only to find herself whisked onto a parade float the next morning, dressed as a hula girl... She kicked it! Two hours in the sun made for hot hooping, but the crowd with their smiles and enthusiastic clapping inspired the two of us (Liz and Diane) to keep on going. Sharing an 8 ft. square section of float was surprisingly easy, with only a few (amusing) collisions with each other, or balloon towers, or helium dolphins. We love a parade!

Mandala Hooping Photo Shoot. Thursday, July 23rd marked the completion of this year's amazing Mandala at Roberts Creek Pier. Members of the R.C. HoopGroup got together for a picnic and photo shoot on this inspiring piece of artwork, which is designed yearly by Robert Marion, and painted by the community. The HoopGroup meets at the Mandala for hooping fun with the public every Sunday. What better place to spin hoops? Circles within a circle...

Hoops for Sale at Sequiro's, Mosaic Market, Davis Bay. During the summer, our ready-to-go-hoops will be available for sale at fellow hooper Betty's fabulous swimwear shop. Check our calendar for dates or give her a call at 604-740-0047 to see if they're on site: usually sunny days, when the big tent is up in the parking lot!

Hooping in the Sea Cavalcade Parade. We'll be hooping on a float this July 25th, so come down and cheer us on! Here's hoping that my fear of heights won't be a problem — and yes, three feet up on a moving vehicle is a height when you're hooping! Afterwards, we'll be roving the streets with practice hoops for everyone to try.

Hoopjams at the Mandala in Roberts Creek. Join us on Sundays for a casual intro to hooping. Meet other hoopers, try out some hoops, and see what it's all about! Practise hoops are provided; bring water and your friends! This event is free.

Hooping demo at Sunnycrest Mall in Gibsons: 11-3pm, Saturday, May 9th
Rose Ann and I will be at Sunnycrest Mall for a demo and registration day this weekend. Come and visit! We'll be located between Bata and Reitmans... See you there!

The Taping Bee, May 1st, 2009
A few of us got together to tape the Mother Hoop last Friday night. What a great feeling, just like an old-time quilting bee. Rose Ann, Liz, Betty and I each added our own contribution (and magic!) to the fabulous hoop. She looks fantastic! And of course we had to try her out, even though it was getting dark by the time we finished. Hooping under the Beltane moon! Lovely. I'll be posting photos in the gallery soon.

Mother Hoop, April 27th, 009
Just have to share the excitement about our latest new toy: the giant hoop! It stands over five feet in diameter! Not knowing what to expect, we took it to last Monday's HoopGroup, and wow, did we fall in love… the spin is slow and meditative, and the weight on your body is comforting, like a wonderful massage. A session down at Roberts Creek Beach, on the sandbar, was absolutely thrilling as we hooped in the wind and the waves. We're definitely going to share this experience, although getting it places will be a bit of a challenge!

Volunteer Clean-up at the Roberts Creek Hall, April 26th, 2009
Our beloved community hall got some care and attention last Sunday. Thanks to Mar-Lynn and the R.C. Community association, we've been able to make the hall our home base, and this event allowed us to show our appreciation. Thanks to wonderful HoopGroup-ers Gail and Liz, who joined Rose Ann and me in giving the walls a good cleaning (including removing errant hoop marks, oops!), among other projects that were done that day.

Earth Day at Roberts Creek Pier, April 19th, 2009
Creekers love to celebrate Earth Day, and they love to hoop! We were busy all day meeting people, sharing our passion, demonstrating and hooping with the kids. Amazing, the tiny size of some of those young ones, who had no problem having fun and getting those hoops spinning! And the rain held off until the end... thank you, all, for visiting us there.
