Beginner HoopDance - Level 1/2

Beginner HoopDance classes will teach you the core moves of hoopdance that will allow you to build a solid foundation to dance from. It's a fun, energetic work-out that never feels like work!

Our beginner classes are loosely structured to allow for your own rate of progress. Instruction begins with a six minute warm-up, followed by key moves and skill-building. We wrap up with 'playtime' for practice and fun. All instruction takes place in a supportive, music-filled environment.

The skills taught in this class are based on our Level 1 & Level 2 workshops, with added time for practice and development. If you've completed Level 1 but are looking for some weekly hooping, this class might still be for you, especially if you haven't had time to practice your skills. There would be some repetition at first, but everyone is encouraged to develop at their own speed and we promise to keep you as challenged as you want to be!

Classes last one hour and run over six weeks.

Skills taught in Beginner HoopDance include:

  • basic forward and side stance waist hooping
  • turns and moving around in all directions
  • "passing", "halos" (one-handed; two-handed)
  • "floating" & "Corkscrews"
  • intro to reverse direction
  • Hip hooping and hip/waist transitions
  • chest hooping, waist & hip angles

    What to Wear/Bring

  • Comfortable yoga-type clothing (non-slippery fabrics) without bulk around the waist
  • Bring layers (a sweater or fleece) to wear until you warm up
  • Short or sleeveless tops are preferable because hoops grip to skin best
  • Flat-soled shoes (non-scuffing soles, please), or bare feet
  • Practice hoops are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own if you have one
  • Water!
  • register online or see calendar for all dates.

    Intermediate HoopDance

Our hooping community is still young and we haven't yet built a foundation of hoopers big enough to support intermediate classes on an ongoing basis. Please let us know if you would be interested in hearing about future classes. Alternatively, if you're a hooper who knows some core moves and are simply looking for practice and inspiration, please check out Roberts Creek HoopGroup.
